Young Mt. Lake businessman suffers fatal heart attack

A young Mt. Lake businessman, Marlyn Friesen, who would have been 44 Tuesday, Feb. 11, suffered a fatal heart attack at his residence Sunday afternoon, Feb. 9.

Friesen, father of two boys, was very active in education, religious and civic affairs of the community. He was a graduate of Mt. Lake High School, and returned here in 1978 to join in partnership with his brother-in-law, Ron Patrick, to operate the lumber yard which bore their father-in-law's name, Klassen Lumber. The partnership remained in force until 1984 when Patrick left the firm to establish The Pizza Ranch.

Prior to returning to Mt. Lake, Friesen had been on the faculty of the Robbinsdale school system. He was active as a member of the Community Development Corporation, and since 1979 had served as a member of the Mt. Lake Board of Education, having been re-elected in 1985, acting as chairman in 1983 and 1984. He was also active in his church, Bethel Mennonite, and in the Mt. Lake Rotary Club.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Wednesday, Feb. 12, at Bethel Mennonite Church with the Reverends Donavin Diller and Peter Neufeld, officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Lake Cemetery. Visitations at the Eifert Funeral Home, Mt. Lake, were yesterday, Tues., Feb. 11 from 2 to 9 p.m. and today from 9 to 11 a.m. as well as one hour prior to services at the church.
