Martha Maria Magdalena Venter (1919 - 1980)

Brief overview:

Not much information can be found online about the life and death of Martha Venter. Martha (60) was one of the earlier victims to have succumbed, and a life taken too soon, during a farm invasion in South Africa.

Although it is believed that farm attacks only began during 1993/1994, the reality is that many farmers, their wives, family members and employees were attacked and murdered a few decades earlier, but the attacks were not as prevalent. Attacks on farming communities began to escalate from 1983 onwards, whereby the escalation is very evident from 1990 through to 1995.

What is known, is that Martha was shot in the chest and died on the family farm on 13th May 1980. It is not known how many perpetrators invaded the farm or the circumstances regarding the attack.
