Obituary - Published in Today's Sunbeam on March 1, 2012 Martin Harris Hackett, age 83 of Carneys Point, formerly of Pilesgrove and Cape May Point, died peacefully Tuesday, February 28, 2012 in Merion Gardens Assisted Living. Born in Woodbury on January 4, 1929, he was the son of the late Thomas Y. 2nd & Nellie (McWilliams) Hackett. Martin was a 1946 graduate of Woodstown High School, and he served in the 47th Infantry of the US Army at Camp Rucker in Alabama during the Korean War. Martin reitred from DuPont Chambers Works where he had worked in the Construction Millwright shop for 30 years, and he was a member of the Pittsgrove Presbyterian Church where he served as treasurer of the Old Pittsgrove Presbyterian Church Restoration Fund for 44 years. He enjoyed living in Cape May Point and traveling to Florida, and he was a 55 year member of Elmer Lodge #169 F. & A.M., where he was Past Treasurer for many years & Past Grand Chaplain 1972-73. He was also a member of the Joppa Chapter #53 of the Royal Arch Masons of Woodstown, a member of Excelsior Consistory of Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, a member of the Crescent Temple of Shriners of North America, and a member of the Evening Star Lodge #97 of Cedarville. Martin is survived by his brothers & sisters-in-law, Thomas Y. 3rd & Paula Hackett of Annandale, VA, and Richard F. & Geneva Hackett of Woodstown; his sister, Marian H. Farrow of West Chester, PA; nine nieces & nephews; his special niece, Lisa Serieyssol; four grandnephews and one grandniece. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Saturday, March 3rd in the Pittsgrove Presbyterian Church, 312 Daretown Rd., Daretown (Upper Pittsgrove Twp.), where friends are invited to visit from 10 AM until the time of service. A Masonic service will be held immediately prior to the funeral service. Memorial contributions in Martin's memory may be made to the Old Pittsgrove Presbyterian Church Restoration Fund, 312 Daretown Rd., Elmer, NJ 08318, or to the Merion Gardens Residents' Relation's Fund, 315 Merion Ave., Carneys Point, NJ 08069.
