The Queen has been pleased to grant unto Martin Leslie Haworth, of Shrub-hill, Dorking, in the county of Surrey, Esquire, eldest son of Martin Edward, Haworth, of Balham Wood, in the county of Hertford, Esquire, by Mary Elizabeth, his wife, second daughter of Henrietta Anne Leslie, Countess of Rothes, in the. Kingdom of Scotland, deceased, Her Royal license and authority that he may, in compliance with a clause contained in the last will and testament of his great aunt, Lady Elizabeth Jane Wathen, of Dorking, in the county of Surrey, Widow of Augustus Wathen, sometime a Major in the 13th Light Dragoons, deceased, younger daughter and co-heir of George William Leslie, Earl of Rothes, take upon himself and use on all occasions the surname of Leslie, instead of that of Haworth, and also bear the arms of Leslie only, and that such surname and arms may, in like manner, be taken and used by his issue; such arms being first duly exemplified according to the laws of arms and recorded in the College of Arms, otherwise the said Royal license and permission to be void and of none effect: And further to command that the said Royal concession and declaration be registered in the said college.

THE Queen, taking into Her Royal consideration that upon the decease of Mary Elizabeth, Countess of Rothes, in her own right, which happened on the nineteenth day of September, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-three, the title and dignity of Earl of Rothes devolved upon Norman Evelyn, now Earl of Rothes, as the eldest son and heir of the late Martin Leslie Leslie, Esquire (formerly Martin Leslie Haworth), who whilst living was the eldest son and heir of the s«id Mary Elizabeth, Countess of Rothes, whereby, according to the ordinary niles of honour, the sisters of the said Norman Evelyn, Earl of Rothes, cannot enjoy that place, rank, and precedence whi ch would have benn due to them had their father, the said Martin Leslie Leslie, survived his said mother, and had thereby succeeded to the title and dignity of Earl of Rothes. Her Majesty has been graciously pleased to ordain and declare that Mary Eleanor Leslie, Mildred Emily Leslie, and Georgina Leslie, Spinsters, sisters of the said Norman Evelyn, Earl of Rothes, shall henceforth have, hold, and enjoy the rank, title, place, pre-eminence, and precedence as daughters of an Earl, to which honour they would have been entitled had their f a t h er survived his mother, and had thereby succeeded to the dignity of E«rl of Rothes : And to command that the said Royal Order and declaration be recorded in Her Majesty's College of Arms.
