Emporia Gazette, The | Emporia, Kansas | Tuesday, January 31, 1911 | Page 3//MARTIN SHUCK DEAD:Martin J. Shuck died this afternoon at his home, 202 Sylvan street. Mr. Shuck had been feeble for some time, but considering his advanced age, his strength was remarkable. Martin Shuck, was born in Indiana, June 17, 1819. He spent his boyhood days in that state, and when a young man, moved to Iowa, where a large part of his life was spent. In 1884, he came to Kansas and to Emporia six years later. Since coming here he has been employed at different occupations, and has made many friends by his thrift and cheerfulness. Mr. Shuck was a man of constant activity and even in old age, could always be found busy. When 14 years old he joined the Christian church and throughout his long life his deeds of kindness and thoughtfulness for others had their marked effect upon his acquaintances.He leaves a family of eight children, his wife having died several years ago. The children are Mrs. Mary Smith, Mrs.Sallie Douglass, W. H. Shuck, Philip Shuck, Mrs. Laura Housley, Mrs. William Fees, and Sam Shuck, all of Emporia; and one daughter, Nancy, living in Iowa. The funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock home. Rev. O. L. Smith, of the First Christian church, will have charge of the services and the interment will be made in the Hunt cemetery.
THE EMPORIA GAZETTE February 1, 1911...The funeral of Martin Shuck. The funeral of Martin Shuck was held yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the home, 209 Sylvan Street. Rev. O. L. Smith, of the First Christian Church, had charge of the services. Many beautiful floral offerings were received from the many friends. The pall bearers were W. A. Boyle, J. N. Swartz, John Linnington, Linch. James Coppock, and William Saffer. The interment was made in the Hunt Cemetery.
