About Martin Thadeus "Thad" Sowder

Martin Thadeus "Thad" Sowder (1874-1931) was a son of Daniel E. Sowder & Martha Jane Sowder.

Thad was a World Championship Bronco Winner in 1901 and 1902. He & his wife, Anna Ferrell (1882-1917) toured with Buffalo Bill Cody's Wild West Show in Europe.

Thad was also the 1st person to be inducted into the Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma.

When Thad died in 1931, his grave was marked by a simple stone. Later a beautifully engraved monument to this accomplished man was placed. He is buried in Ovid Cemetery, Ovid, Sedgwick County, CO.

Thad & Anna had 1 son:

  • Harold L. Sowder (1908-1969).
