About Marx Erstein
"New York, New York City Marriage Records, 1829-1940," database, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:24S2-CN9 : 20 March 2015), Marx Erstein and Mary Stein, 16 Apr 1885; citing Marriage, Manhattan, New York, New York, United States, New York City Municipal Archives, New York; FHL microfilm 1,570,679.
In 1856, Ingwiller was a commune in the department of Bas-Rhin, Alsace, Second French Empire, or just French Empire. According to Wikipedia, Alsace-Champagne-Ardenne-Lorraine was established on Jan 1, 2016 as part of the Grand Est region. Furthermore, Bas-Rhin and Haut-Rhin departments were merged into the new European Collectivity of Alsace on Jan 1, 2021. Wikipedia does not make it clear what the new name is; but since it is still part of Grand Est, I shall assume that it is European Collectivity of Alsace-Champagne-Ardenne-Lorraine. Only time will tell. I shall have to re-evaluate this premise in the future. George Szkolny
