About Mary Alsop
Mary East as mother of the Alsup men is extremely suspicious.
Mary East [E4d], daughter of Thomas East Sr of Henrico Co VA and Dorothy Thomas, was born around the 1680s, and in 1726 when Mavel father wrote his will, item I give unto Mary Alsope my daughter one-shilling. Mary had married William Alsop by then. Over the years, there has been a controversy whether Mary was actually Mary Mavel East. But if this was true, then why did her father call her Mary when she was married to Mr Alsop, and Mavel when she was married to Mr Robinson? Actually, it is far more likely that there were two daughters, and Mary was the youngest since the first mention of her was when Mary father wrote his will in 1726, thus indicating that she was either not born until years after Mavel, or wasn an adult until years after her father started giving gifts to his elder children in 1690. (MV,JY). ....
I believe Mavel East, widow of John Robinson, married, 2nd, William Alsup, abt 1723, either in Henrico or Hanover Co, VA.
My direct ancestor, William Alsup was born abt 1660, and he died abt 1730, Hanover Co, VA. I find it hard to believe that William and Mavel had offspring.
