Irene Souder Bechtel, age 99, of Souderton, formerly of Spring City, died on Sunday, March 6, at Souderton Mennonite Homes, where she lived for the last 17 years. Irene was born January 20, 1912 in Telford, to the late Edwin and Ella Hackman Souder. She married Norman H. Bechtel, of Spring City, in 1932 and lived there raising eight children and dairy farming with her husband who was also a pastor and evangelist. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, reading, music and nature. She was a member of Lansdale Mennonite Church and a former member of Pottstown Mennonite Church where her husband was pastor.

She is survived by five children: Geraldine, wife of Paul Stiedle of Little Rock, AR, Eleanor, wife of Earl Fuhrman of Hanover, PA, Lois, wife of Lowell Gerber of Lititz, PA, Lorraine, wife of Mike Sayre, of Navarre, OH and Doris, wife of Bob Schmehl of Wyomissing, PA. She is survived by 24 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren and 6 great-greatgrandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Eugene Souder and wife Alice of Grottoes, VA.

In addition to her husband Norman, she was preceded in death by sons, Harold and Wilmer; daughter, Dorothea; granddaughters, Cynthia and Sonya (Wilmer's daughters); sisters, Grace Kolb, Elizabeth Allebach, Gladys Kolb, and Iona Weaver; and brothers, Mahlon, Kraybill, Norman, and Stanley Souder; and sons-in-law, Jim Hardison, Henry Shank, David Dutcher and Paul Kolesar.

The funeral service will be held Sat., March 12, 11:00 AM at Vincent Mennonite Church, 39 Seven Stars Road, Spring City, where visitation will take place from 9:30-11:00 AM. Pallbearers will be her grandsons. Interment follows in the church cemetery. For those desiring, memorial contributions in her name may be made to the Agape Fund of Souderton Mennonite Homes, 207 W.
