OBITUARY Biddle—Mary McBride Biddle was born at Tama City, Iowa, Jan. 28, 1853. Her girlhood was spent there. At the age of 18 she married Henry Biddle, of Pittsburgh, Pa. They made their home for four years near Sacramento, Calif. They then came to Brown county, Kansas, settled on the open prairie. A house was built, trees planted, a beginning made, all that was made history concerning the pioneer, was experienced. 11 children were born, seven of them reaching manhood and womanhood.

Some 50 years ago she was gloriously converted by the preaching of the gospel by Rev. Mr. Paulett. Retiring by nature, reserved in all her manners, yet it was a common sight to have her show her love for her Master after the custom of the shouting Methodist. She was the last charter member of the Mt. Zion Methodist church. Sorrow, tragedy only made her nature sweeter. It seemed her trust in God grew constantly. Two of her children lost their lives in a fire. Her son, Willie, died about 25 years ago. Her husband died nine years ago.
While she was visiting her daughter, Mrs. Owen Picton, she suffered a paralytic stroke, died four days later at the age of 76 years, 6 months, 4 days. Those of her children who survive her are C. W. Biddle, George Biddle, Bessie Idol, Loulu Phillips, Mattie Picton, of Hiawatha, Sam Biddle, Mary Gilmore, of Dinuba, Calif.
The funeral was held Monday at 3 p. m. from Mt. Zion church. A quartet composed of H. Narbett, Ray Pierson, Nellie Parker, Mert Parker, accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Leo Schooler, sang, "Face to Face," "My Faith Looks Up to Thee," "Sweet Hour of Prayer," "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere." Rev. Roy N. Hillyer, of Horton, preached the funeral sermon, assisted by Rev. Brown, of Mt. Zion church. Burial was made at Mt. Pleasant cemetery. The body bearers were her eight grandsons, Samuel Picton, Howard Phillips, Gordon Biddle, Hanson Idol, Wesley Reese, Walter Myers, Virgil Evans, Paul Bruning.
