Eunice Bonham, wife of James Finley , was a daughter of Nehemiah Finley. The following recentl y published information seems to firmly establish that sh e was a daughter of Hezekiah Finley. Nehemiah & Eunice wer e probably brother & sister. Proof that Hezekiah Bonham i s the father of Eunice, wife of James Finley, is found on p age 106 of "Court Orders of Wythe County, Virginia 1790-179 1; 1795-1810: 14 Sep 1803: "James Finley and Unis his wif e late Bonham approved by the oath of Nehemiah Bonham tha t Unis is the daughter of Hezekiah Bonham of Frederick Coun ty, Virginia, and a sister of Robert Bonham, deceased, lat e of Baltimore." The Nehemiah Bonham who is commonly cite d as the father of Eunice Bonham, wife of James Finley, wa s not old enough. Rev. Nehemiah Bonham's diary covering th e years 1828-1838 has survived as a private manuscript in t he North Carolina State Archives and may shed light on th e matter. It is on 20 feet of microfilm. Nehemiah was an it inerant Presbyterian minister in western NC and VA, easter n TN, SC, and northern GA.. In a letter from Rev. Thomas B . Stratton to Eldridge Todd Finley of Dunlow, WV dated 22 D ec 1932 he states that his grandmother's maiden name was Eu nice Bonham and that her mother's name was Mary Cordrey.
