About Mary Elizabeth Bryant

From a newspaper clipping kept by the family:

LEHI WOMAN NEARS 90th ANNIVERSARY Lehi--Mrs. Mary G. Bryant, Lehi, will be honored at a family gathering on her ninetieth birthday, Monday, at the home of a niece, Mrs. Mildred S. Richens, 50 North Tenth East, Provo.

Mrs. Bryant is enjoying golden health despite her years, and has a retentive memory. She enjoys visiting with her friends, and although her failing eyesight prevents activity in the fine sewing she became noted for in her earlier life, she enjoys a limited amount of reading daily.

She was born in Lehi, May 21, 1861, a daughter of pioneer parents, William and Julia Jeans Gurney. She received her early education in the Lehi schools, and on November 29, 1882 was married in the Endowment House in Salt Lake City to James R. Bryant, a member of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints from Wales who came across the plains at two years of age.

They made their home in Lehi for a time, then moved to Magrath and Burdett, Alberta, Can. where Mrs. Bryant was active in the organizations of the church. In 1916 they returned to Lehi until 1924 when they moved to Salt Lake City.

Following the death of Mr. Bryant May 11, 1940, Mrs. Bryant returned to her home in Lehi.

She is the mother of four sons and four daughters, three of whom are still living. They are Lester George Bryant, Long Beach, Cal.; Mrs. Julia B. Fletcher, Lethbridge, Alberta, Can.; and Mrs. Myrtle Turner, Lehi. She has two brothers and two sisters: George Gurney, Magrath, Can.; Alfred Gurney, Brigham City, and Mrs. Matilda Phillips and Mrs. Melissa Sims, Lehi: and a half brother, Charles Gurney, Lehi. She has a posterity of 58, including 23 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
