The widow of John Champer, Mrs. Mary Champer, living about two miles west of here, has been laboring under aberration by times since an attack of la grippe during the winter or early spring and in one of her desponding moods last Friday morning, while William Gantz was putting a new roof on her dwelling house, she quietly glided into a cornfield near by and with a knife attempted to take her life by cutting an ugly gash across her throat, severing the wind pipe close under the chin. Her absence was soon discovered, when she was sought by her son and another and found weltering in her blood, on a low piece of ground in the field. Dr. Stockon was quickly called, the gash sewed and wind pipe united, since which by great care, she seems to be convalescing.

Mrs. Mary Champer, whose demented condition and attempt at suicide we mentioned last week, died from the effects of the self afflicted wound in her throat early Monday morning. Her remains were interred by the side of her husband in the Champer graveyard, south of town, at 10 o'clock yesterday forenoon. She was a daughter of the late Peter Harple, and was about 62 years of age.
