About Mary Ann Lilly Cole
Lily Houston McMillan was working for her father John W McMillan at his wayside Inn near Ixopo when a well known transport carrier called in for refreshment and to rest his horse. The gentleman was none other than James Cole, local identity associated with Cecil Rhodes and later to become a wealthy merchant known as "Old King Cole". Lily charmed the gentleman with her wit and wisdom and he fell for her. The two were eventually married and lived at his rambling farmhouse and store at "Riverside" in the upper Umzimkulu valley.
She was also said to be psychic and could see the future, so maybe she saw what James Cole had become before she took the plunge.
