About Mary Josephine Crane

Mary Josephine Crane, dau. of James Harvey Crane and Abial Reed, was born in Moriah, Essex Co., New York on June 16, 1844.; m. with OLIVER BECKWITH on Dec. 25, 1865 in Iowa. They were the parents of four children Hattie, Loyal W., Bertha, and Cora; all born Iowa.

Obit: HUMBOLDT REPUBLICAN Mary Josephene Crane was born in Essex Co., New York on June 16, 1844, and passed from this life June 11, 1917. Had she lived five more days, she would have been seventy-three years of age. She came with her parents, Harvey and Abial Crane, to Jackson Co., Iowa in 1854. In 1865 she united in marraige to Oliver Beckwith; in 1881 they moved from Maquoketa, Iowa to near LuVernem Humboldt Co., Iowa, where they resided until 1899, when they moved to the town of Humboldt, where they have since lived.

To this union were born three daughters and one son, Mrs. J.E. Willey, Algona, Iowa; Mrs. Loyal W. of Oakes, N.D.; Mrs. P.E. Ketman of Lake Crystal, Minn., and Mrs. H.M. Blazar of Oakes, N.D. Mrs. Beckwith was a life long Christian, having become a member of the church in her childhood. She with her husband transferred their membership to the Congregational Church of Humboldt upon moving to this place. Of all the duties she was an active participant until by failing health she was kept away from the church. Genial, sprightly, and social in her disposition, she was loved and respected by all who knew her. Her decline in health was gradual and lingering and she peacefully fell asleep in the faith which has been her support all the years o her long and beautiful life.

Interment was made in the family lot located in the Humboldt Union cemetery. (13), Loyal W. (11), Bertha A. (8), and Cora E. (0).
