About Mary Fallon
Mary was the first of her 10 siblings to come over to the United States from Ireland. She and her husband came over on a ship that landed in Boston, and they settled in Southie and worked hard to make enough money to send for three of her sisters and one brother to follow them, one at a time, to the states. Margaret and Bridget (well known as Aunt Jessie) settled in Springfield, Vermont. Julia stayed by her sister in Roslindale, Mass, and their brother Dennis also came over. It was said that Dennis visited here once and then went "off on a journey to find gold" and was never heard from again. You must remember that back then a lot of people could not read or write, including some of the 10 siblings and definitely their parents back in Ireland.
I (Kathy) remember visiting Aunt Mary in South Boston when I was a little girl. We would always go in for the St. Patrick's Day Parade in "Southie". Aunt Noreen lived with her mother at that time and took care of her. I remember when the trash needed to be emptied by someone, Aunt Mary would lay a dollar bill on the top of the trash and, low and behold, there would be a fight over who got to carry it out.
