Mary Russell Field (Colvin) husband, Henry Hill Field was a Merchant and large Plantation owner in Texas. He moved with his first wife, Diana Field (Slaughter) to Eufaula, Alabama, until her death, February 19, 1838. He then moved back to Culpeper County, Virginia for several years. He sold his home in Eufaula he shared with his first wife in 1842, but in the deed, Mr. Field Reserved Ten Square Feet of the lot, which contained the graves of his first wife and child. He moved back with Mary Russell Field (Colvin) and family by 1848, where they lived until 1855 when they moved to Lockhart, Caldwell County, Texas for the remainder of their lives. After her husband's death, Mary took over his Merchant business and successfully running of the Plantation until her sons were old enough to step into the business. She didn't remarry, she was very independent and wanted to keep her property in her name and her children's control if she would've remarried during this era all of her property would've been in her new husband's control. None of our maternal grandmother's remarried, I was told for this reason. She was an astute businesswoman passing down this knowledge to her daughters and sons. The Field family sold the land over time and much of the land that was part of the plantation is the town of Lockhart, Texas today.
The stained glass windows at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church has a plaque in the memory of Field Family name dedicated and donated by the Field family members. [(ref [http://www.eeclockhart.org/history.html F]
