Margaret Gamage was the daughter of Sir Thomas Gamage.1 She married William Howard, 1st Baron Howard of Effingham, son of Thomas Howard, 2nd Duke of Norfolk and Agnes Tilney, before 1536.2 She died on 18 May 1581.3
From before 1536, her married name became Howard. As a result of her marriage, Margaret Gamage was styled as Baroness Howard of Effingham on 11 March 1554.

The later Earls of Effingham descended from his younger son William Howard. His daughter Douglas Howard [sic] was born in 1545, married first John Sheffield, 2nd Baron Sheffield of Butterwick, secondly (in secret) Robert Dudley, 1st Earl of Leicester and thirdly Edward Stafford.
