Jennie and Ed had no children of their own, but they raised her sister Maud's oldest son, Lee Adrian (who was called Myrtle or Myrt) Giddings from the time he was a young child.

At the age of 8 she moved with her parents to Kansas where her mother later died, leaving the care of the household on Mary Jane.
