Mary Harrell

Francis Harrell was born in 1695 in New Kent, Virginia. He married Mary Benton in 1720 in North Carolina. He died in 1763 in Bertie, North Carolina, at the age of 68.

The Last Will and Testament of Francis Harrell names his wife Mary, sons Jacob, John, Francis, William, and Shadrack. His daughters were Mary Averet, Sarah Saulsbury, Elizabeth Carril (sic), and Martha Harrile.

Apparently, the first three sons and the three married daughters had earlier received their inheritances, since each received only five shillings, a token legacy.The two sons William and Shadrack and their single sister Martha received more substantial inheritances.

Notes for MARY BENTON: Mary's maiden name has not been documented satisfactorily.Several have listed her name as Benton, but have given no evidence.

Records show that Francis and Mary Harrel lived in Nanesmond County, VA in 1731. Prior to May 20, 1734 they moved to Bertie County, North Carolina with a son Jacob. Records show that there were Harrells listed in Erin's Isle (Ireland) and it may be presumed that this is where Francis was born.
