Biography

Mary Harris was born between February 15, 1723, and 1737 in Isle of Wight County, Province of Virginia. Her parents were Joseph Turner and Burchett Turner.

Mary married Maj. West Harris in 1740 in Isle of Wight, United States. Together they had the following children:

She died in 1766 in Montgomery County, Province of North Carolina and was buried in Rowan County, North Carolina, United States.



Married 1740, Brunswick Co, NC (please note: this must be Brunswick County, Va., instead of Brunswick County, NC, which was created in 1764 from Bladen County, see: https://raogk.org/northcarolina/brunswick-county/. Brunswick County in Va., was created in 1720 from Prince George County.)


The first West Harris married Mary Turner and to them were born the following children:

  2. Elizabeth;
  3. Turner;
  4. Ethelred; (or Dred)
  5. Priscilla, who married Roger Williams;
  6. Pattie, who married Buckner Kimball;
  7. Roland, born 1754, said to have married a Kimball;

  9. Arthur, born July 7th, 1758, died Dec. 23rd, 1833;
  10. Mary, born 1760, married Richard Parker;
  11. Patience, who married William Girardeau.

"West and Mary were originally buried in Chisholm Cemetery, Montgomery County, North Carolina which consisted of 11 graves. They were buried in plots 7 and 8. With the construction of the Badin Dam, the cemetery was removed. West and Mary were reburied in the Old English Cemetery, Salisbury, Rowan County, NC. The other 9 bodies were moved to Big Cut Cemetery. per Tallassee Power Company 12-22-1917 (note copied from Ancestry member: nancyd1941 added this on 9 Sep 2010)" [3]
