- ' Lady Mary Hay was the daughter of Francis Hay, 9th Earl of Erroll and Elizabeth Douglas.1 She married Walter Scott, 1st Earl of Buccleuch, son of Sir Walter Scott, 1st Lord Scott of Buccleuch and Mary Ker, circa 15 October 1616, with a tocher of 20,000 marks Scots.1 She died on 11 April 1631 at Newark Castle, Yarrow, Ayrshire, Scotland.1
- ' As a result of her marriage, Lady Mary Hay was styled as Lady Scott of Buccleuch circa 15 October 1616. From circa 15 October 1616, her married name became Scott. As a result of her marriage, Lady Mary Hay was styled as Countess of Buccleuch on 16 March 1618/19.
