About Mary Sophia Kerr

Mary Sophia Branch was born July 28, 1850, in Maury County, Tennessee, to William Minor Branch and his wife Mary Ann Uzzell. She married William Graves Kerr on April 25, 1870, in Maury County, Tennessee. Following is an obituary I found for her. She was the niece of my second great grandmother.

Mrs. Mary Kerr, 93, Passes Away Wednesday Night (1943): Mrs. Mary S. Kerr, 93 years of age, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Luther Snider, (Emily A'Della Kerr Snider), Wednesday afternoon at 5:30 o'clock after a long illness. She had been an invalid for the last ten years, and had been tenderly cared for by her daughters.

She was born in Maury County, Tennessee, July 28, 1850, coming to Texas in 1873 with her husband who was William Graves Kerr. He died June 8, 1908. The deceased was a daughter of William Branch and Mary Uzzell Branch, and a life-long member of the Christian church.

Funeral services were held at 5 o'clock Thursday afternoon in the Massie Funeral Home chapel, conducted by Rev. Abner Snider and Dr. C.S. Weaver, christian ministers. Interment followed in the old Fitzhugh cemetery at Forest Grove.

Her husband and three children preceded her in death. The following daughters and sons survive: Ross H. Kerr, McKinney; Mrs. Theophilus G. White, (Virginia A. Kerr) Dallas; Mrs. Luther Snider, (Emily A'Della Kerr) McKinney; Mrs. Cordis Elbert Snider, (Martha Ellen Kerr) McKinney Route 2; Mrs. J.B. Faulkner, Fort Worth; George W. Kerr, Dallas; Mrs. Pearl Martin, Grapevine. One sister, Mrs. George Thompson (Laura Susannah Branch) of Leslie, Arkansas, survives as do twenty-two grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
