About Mary Manning

HISTORY OF THE TOWN OF STONINGTON, County of New London, Connecticut, from its first settlement in 1649 to 1900, by Richard Anson Wheeler, New London, CT, 1900, p. 458

The Genealogical Compilation has what is likely to be an error. Hezh MANNING is identified as both the spouse of Mary WEBB B Dec 23 1725 and her sister Ann WEBB B. June 13 1728. It is possible that he married one first and she died in childbirth and then he married her sister. More research is needed to answer this mystery.

Mary and her sister, Anne, have the same married name, Manning. A source indicates that Anne married Hezekiah Manning, her husband. This could be a case of elopement or bigamy, marriage after the death of one of the two or clerical error. It is also possible, though unlikely, that one of these girls never existed.
