Biography

Mary (Polly) Hildebrand was born June 4, 1829 in the Cherokee Nation (East) . She was the daughter of Michael Hildebrand, a white man, and Nannie Martin, a Cherokee. She married Isaac Mayfield on on April 22, 1848 in Monroe County, Tennessee. They were the parents of nine children, Nancy, Michael, [1] Susan, John, Lillar, Joseph, Florence, Isaac, Jr., and Rogina. [2] They emigrated to Indian Territory in 1881 and were readmitted to Cherokee citizenship on January 18, 1882. [3] Mary and Isaac appear on the 1896 Cherokee census living in Tahlequah District. [4] Polly died May 10, 1906, and is buried at the Blue Springs Cemetery, Gideon, Oklahoma. [5]
