Mary Joann Merwin

Mary Carney Merwin, age 82, of Knoxville died suddenly on December 30, 2021 at Parkwest Hospital. She attended Cedar Lane United Methodist Church. Mary was born in Corinth, MS and raised in Lenoir City, TN. After graduating from Lenior City High School in 1957, Mary attended the College of Nursing at the University of Tennessee Medical School of Memphis, TN.

Mary's ancestors were among the families who were first settlers of Nashville, TN. Mary was a lifelong avid reader and book lover. She loved flowers, music, movies, cooking, genealogy, western art, and traveling. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh. Above all else, Mary loved her children and family.

Preceded in death by her husband Hubert John Merwin III.

Family and friends will gather at Cedar Lane United Methodist Church, 714 Cedar Lane, Knoxville, TN 37912 on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. for a memorial service. A visitation service will immediately follow the memorial service. Masks will be required.

Flowers may be sent to the church or memorials may be made to National Federation of the Blind, Paralyzed Veterans of America, or St. Joseph's Indian School.
