Mary and John Olmstead

John was the second son of Richard Olmstead and (unknown). Mary and John were wed on July 17, 1673 in Norwalk, Conn. and raised seven children. Mary died in about 1687 or 1688 and John then remarried, before 1690, to Elizabeth (Pardee) Gregory, widow of Thomas Gregory. Together, John and Elizabeth had five children. It is not known how he earned the rank of Lieutenant.

John's father was Richard Olmstead, the son of Richard Olmstead and Frances Slaney of Essex, England. John's father died after 1684 in Norwalk, Conn. John was christened on Dec. 30, 1649 in Hartford, Conn. and died in Dec. 22, 1704 at Hartford, Conn.A,B

Mary Benedict was born at Southold . She married John Olmstead , "Lieut, Olmstede" of Norwalk , 11th Nov. 1670 . Their children were John , Mary , Jane , Sarah , Rebecca , Elizabeth , Daniel , Richard , Eunice , and Deborah .

Sarah Benedict was born at Southold . She married James Beebe of Stratford , Dec. 19, 1679 . Their children were Sarah , born 13th November, 1680 , and James , born - -. James Beebe was one of the eight who purchased and settled Danbury . He conveyed his property in Norwalk January 2d, 1685 , in which he is described as of Paquiack , formerly of Norwalk .

Rebecca Benedict was born at Southold . She married Doctor Samuel Wood . He was an able physician, born and educated in England . He was one of the first settlers of Danbury after the first eight families. Dr. John Wood and David Wood are also among the 19 principal sufferers by the British attack in 1777 .

I, Mary Olmsted of East Haddam, in the County of Hartford, do make this my last will and testament: I give to my son Samuel Olmsted all my estate after my just debts are paid, except what is hereafter in this my will otherwise bequeathed. I give to my son John Olmsted my Bible. I give to my daughter Sarah Cone 1 Duroy suit of aparrel and 20 shillings in money. I give to my daughter Elizabeth Church my bed and bedstead with the furniture; also I give to her my trunk and all that is therein; also I give to her my box and all that is in it. I give to her my warming pan, my brass kettle, two pewter platters, one basin and one porringer; also I give 9 sheets and two pillow beers, also my linen wheel. I give to my above-named children and their heirs and assigns in manner as above sd. I constitute my son-in-law John Church to be sole executor. Witness: John X Spencer, Isaac Spencer, Jabez Chapman.
