About Mary Porter Osborne

GRANDMA OSBORNE DEAD---Mary Porter Guerrant was born in Rockingham county, North Carolina, December 20th, 1831. When thirteen years of age she was converted and united with the M.E. church, of which she had always been a member. April 28, 1853, she was united in marriage with David Madison Osborne, in North Carolina. She moved with her husband to Kansas, settling in Anderson county, in 1868. She moved to Johnson county, her home at the time of her death, in 1899. Seven children, three sons, and four daughters, were born to Mr. and Mrs. Osborne. The oldest daughter passed away in February, 1862, the oldest son in March, 1872, and the husband on April 4th, 1877. Grandma passed away at 10:30 p.m. December 28, 1915, after an illness of five days, at the age of 84 years and 8 days. Besides her five children, Mrs. J. R. Penner, D. T. and Hugh Osborne, of this place, and Mrs. W. H. Creed and Mrs. A. C. Veatch, of Kansas City, Moissouri, she leaves a number of grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, and a number of friends to mourn their loss.

Funeral services conducted by Rev. B. W. Hugg, were held at the home of her son, Daniel Thomas Osborne, near Lexington, at 11 o'clock Friday, December 31st. Four grandsons, Frank and Lou Penner, Barton Veatch and W.D. Osborne, and two grandsons-in-law, Will Reed and Clarence Hail, acted as the pall bearers.
