Robert Paddock was born at Stephenstown, Balrothery Parish, County Dublin, Ireland, on 16 September 1584, son of John Paddock and Jennette Jennin. He was married first to Mary Ball before 3 April 1603. Mary was the daughter of Zachery and Margaret Ball. She died in September 1627 at Killany, County Louth, and was buried on 14 September. Mary Ball was born in 1582. If Robert had children by his first wife they are unknown. However, his son Robert, Jr., may be a son by his first wife.

Paddock’s second wife was Mary Holmes, daughter of Peter and Elizabeth (Ireland) Holmes, married on 12 October 1630 (making Robert age 48). Peter Holmes was a “recussant” and weaver of Killany, County Louth, Ireland. Her brother was Francis Holmes, who emigrated to Stamford, Connecticut, in 1648. Mary Holmes’s maternal grandfather was Lawrence Ireland.

In his mother’s Will, dated 3 April 1607, Robert was given his father’s blacksmith shop. At which trade he made his living.

Sometime between 1631 and 1634, the Paddock family emigrated to Plymouth Colony, New England, America.2 in the New World, Robert Paddock continued his trade as a blacksmith as mentioned in Colony records dated 4 June 1638.

Mary (Holmes) Paddock died shortly after the birth of her sixth child, John. Sometime between 1644 and 1646, Mary (Trine) Palmer married Robert Paddock, as his third wife, and now able to raise her son William Palmer. She had one child, Susanna, born in 1649, a year before Robert’s death in 1650.
