About Mary Emmaline Poole
Mary E. Poole, age 88, passed away on Aug. 25 at her son's home in Lebanon, Ore. She moved five years ago from Apache Junction, Ariz., to live with her son Steve K. Poole and his wife Corrinne. Mary was born May 1, 1919, at the family homestead near Humphrey, Idaho, to Franklin Otto and Ada Belle (Wakefield) Robbins. At 13, Mary lost her mother. She then went to live with her Aunt Bernice and Uncle Stark Johnson in Aberdeen, Idaho. Mary graduated from Aberdeen High School in 1936. In 1933 Mary met Rulon (Jim) Poole, who was working highway construction near Humphrey. They were married on Dec. 5, 1936, in Idaho Falls. Their first home was a 12 X 12 hut at Stoddards Sawmill between Humphrey and Spencer, Idaho. They later moved to West Yellowstone, and then in 1940 they settled in Lima, where Jim started working for the Union Pacific Railroad, from which he retired in 1971. Together, Jim and Mary raised two sons, Reed and Steve. Mary worked for three years at the Union Pacific Roundhouse during World War II. She was the town of Lima's City Clerk for over 10 years. She was a member of the Lima Community Church, Lady Fireman, Woodcrafter's, Democratic Ladies Club and Bridge Club. She was very active in Cub Scouts as a Den Mother, PTA, horseback riding and she loved to cook, especially pies. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son Reed, her sister Jessie Stevens, her sister Claire Keele Casey, her brother Hugh Robbins, and her brother Guy Robbins. She is survived by her sister Alice Robinson Hocking of Silverton, Idaho; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Corrinne Poole of Lebanon, Oregon; daughter-in-law Barbara Poole, Ogden, Utah; six grandchildren, Laurie Poole Roskelley (Bill), Wendy Poole Cunningham (Trace), Kelly Poole Roundy (Scott), Mark Poole (Suzanne), Justin Poole and Nicole Poole; eight great grandchildren, Jodie Hanselman, Jamie Cunningham Moline (Brady), Shalynn Cunningham, Christopher Roundy, Mathew Roundy, Chandler Poole, Elizabeth Poole, Jacqueline Poole; and four great-great grandchildren, Madelyn Hanselman, Kurtis Ward, Britton Moline and Chase Moline. The funeral service will be held on Friday, Aug. 31, starting with a viewing from 12 - 2 p.m., followed by the funeral service starting at 2 p.m. at the Lima Community Church in Lima. Following service, there will be a graveside blessing at the Lima Cemetery, with a reception at the Lima Community Church afterwards. The family suggests that all memorials be sent to the Lima Community Swimming Pool in Lima in the name of Mary E. Poole.
