About Mary Prindle

From VR of CT: William Pringle and mary Difburrow was married by mr Goodyeare the 7th of december 1655

From Prindle Genealogy page 1. "She [Mary] joined with son Eleazer, as late as April 1697, in a land deed, and probably died about 1700-01."

  • Per Franklin Prindle: William and Mary were probably buried in the ancient ground of the New Haven ground which was used as the place of burial from 1638 to 1812.
  • On 20 Feb 1661/62 at Old Meeting House, New Haven, New Haven Co, CT, US, William Pringle and Mary Desborough were assigned church seats, denomination unknown. Later Pringles/Prindles were "stanch Episcopalians" in Trinity Church .(753) He left a will on 17 Oct 1689 at New Haven, New Haven Co, CT, US; Probated 5 june 1690. (754)
  • Actor Clint Eastwood is a descendant. Marriage information is from "New England Marriages prior to1700" by Clarence Almon Torrey FHC film #0929498. Torrey originally spelled Mary's last name Disborough and later changed the spelling to Desborough.
  • Sproul and Tanner list the daughter of Nicholas Disborough and Mary Bronson as the Mary D. who married William Pringle. However, Tanner lists two subsequent husbands, Obadiah Spencer in 1665 and Mathew Barnard in 1673. If the subsequent husbands are accurate, this rules out this Mary as William's wife due to their children's birthdates. (751,752)
  • She has been seen as a daughter of Samuel Desborough, First Magistrate of Connecticut, & Dorothy Whitfield. However Samuel was in CT only for a year or so, and his known children were Sarah and James ... no Mary.

  1. 751. Sproul, online, As of 5/18/99 Sproul thinks this is the Mary whom William married. I have listed Mary Desborough, parents unknown, as primary. Hereinafter cited as Sproul.
  2. 752. Brenda Tanner at Rootsweb, online, Lists this Mary D. as William Pringle's wife, but also lists 2 other husbands. Hereinafter cited as Brenda Tanner.
