Death: 27 Jan 1882 Kenosha Union (Kenosha, WI), Thurs 2 Feb 1882 Mrs (Mary Dowdle) Rafferty, widow of James Rafferty, of Pleasant Prairie, upwards of 60 yrs of age, d Fri last, & was buried Sun, funeral svcs taking place at St Marks church in this city. Mr [sic] Rafferty leaves 4 married dtrs to mourn her loss. Note: 4 dtrs were Ann Carney, Sarah O'Hare, Bridget Moran, & Marcella Rogan. Copy of her probate packet indicates her money was divided between these 4 dtrs & 3 sons of deceased dtr, Mary Johnson. March 6 1883 appears Dexter estate $151.10..surviving Ann Carney, Bridget Moran, Sarah OHare, Marcella Rogan, her dtrs; & 3 children of deceased dtr namely Charles Johnson, Edward Johnson & Delbert Johnson for heirs at law. Written statement by Timothy Kelly Jr....1 of dtrs said her mother wanted to see me. I then went into the room. Neither Mr Rogan nor Mr OHare were there. Then I think OHare came in after next. About 10 minutes after I was in the room Rogan came in. My conversation with Mrs Rafferty was before Rogan came in but OHare was there and heard all there was I think. In the presence of the said OHare Mrs Carney in the room in the mothers presence said that she and Mrs Moran had talked it over the night before with the mother about leaving Delbi something. The mother said she wanted to leave him $50. Mrs Rafferty and she wanted that I should take the money and keep it for him. I told her I would rather somebody else took it. After hearing Thos OHare testimony and... Frank...he heard most of the conversation but I won't be certain. I could not be positive that Mrs Rafferty said anything about the will from after Rogan came in to write it and before the witnesses signed...it. Mr Carney told Rogan what to write on the paper and he wrote it at her dictation. I am quite positive that the will was read to Mrs Rafferty by Mr Rogan so that she could hear it. Mrs Rafferty did not ask me to witness it. Nor did she ask Rogan or Mr OHare. I don't know why Mrs Rafferty did not sign it. No one asked her to do so I think. She had strength to sign if she had been asked thereafter she sat up. She seemed to understand herself she was very sick. I don't know that she was very feeble. I...heard her sigh occasionally. I did not notice any wandering in her mind. I could not see any difference in her state of mind. While I was there she was the same as we were except she was sick. 11May1882.
