Obituary- Decatur Daily Republican 3/4/1884

"Died--At the home of her sister, Mrs. Maria Kirkman, in Winchester, Scott co, Ill, March 3, 1884, Mrs. Mary J. Rice in the 61st year of her age.

Mrs. Rice was the youngest sister of Mrs. E. E. Pugh and J. R. Gorin, of this city. she was born in Dodd County, ky, July 15th, 1823, removed with her parents to Vandalia, Ill, in 1828 and there was married to Dr. E. J. Rice in 1838 who died in Moweaqua, Feb. 20, 1875. The remains will be taken to Moweaqua,where the funeral will occur tomorrow forenoon and her body will be deposited by the side of her deceased husband. J. R. Gorin and other relatives of the deceased will accompany the body to Moweaqua on the Central train this evening at 5:25 oclock. The funeral services will take place at 11 oclock tomorrow and Decatur friends wishing to attend can do so by taking the 10 am train here tomorrow and returning at 3:30Pm."
