BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE:

Mary James, daughter of Richard and Mary James, was born on May 31st., 1783, and baptised June 15, 1783, in Dowlish Wake. Mary married James Roper, widower, of Chideock, Dorset, at Kingstone on July 21, 1808, in the presence of John Roper and William James. They farmed in Chideock and later, c1811, in Whitehurch Canonicorum, both in Dorset. James died in Whitechurch, aged 44, and was buried in Chideock on October 9, 1816 (M.I. in Chideock); Mary died, a widow, on October 22nd., 1843, aged 60, buried in Chideock on October 27, 1843 (M.I. in Chideock). They had issue.
