About Mary Ruggles
Mary (Gibson) Ruggles was born May 29, 1637 to John and Rebecca (Thompson) Gibson of Cambridge, Massachusetts. She was the second of five children born to the couple and also the second of three daughters.
On April 3, 1655, Mary became the first of three wives to John Ruggles of Roxbury. With John, she had four children:
- Mary, b. March 15, 1656, d. 1682; married John Searle of Roxbury
- John, b. May 19, 1657; first wife was Hannah Devotion, whom he married May 1, 1679
- Rebecca, b. Sept. 2, 1662
- Joseph, b. Dec. 25, 1669
Little is known about Mary as an individual. Her husband was a selectman and was one of the trustees of the Roxbury Free School, now known as the Roxbury Latin School.
