About Mary Lou Sennett

Daughter of the late Mary (nee Austin) and Nelson O’Neil. She received her bachelor’s degree from The Ohio State University, where she met her future husband, George T. Sennett. After Mary Lou and George married, they lived in Lakewood, Ohio until a job transfer moved their family to Millington, New Jersey. She was a parishioner at St. Vincent de Paul Church for 49 years.

While raising her family, Mary Lou was an active volunteer for St. Vincent de Paul PTA, Girl Scouts, VNA, Bonnie Brae and many other worthy non-profits. She was especially passionate about education and reading. She returned to school and received her master’s degree in ESL (English as a Second Language) from Fairleigh Dickinson in Madison, New Jersey. She went on to enjoy a career teaching the English language to public school, adult-ed and corporate students. After her retirement, Mary Lou and George traveled extensively through the Elderhostel program, which provides educational travel tours primarily geared to older adults. To share her love of travel, Mary Lou also took each of her grandchildren on an intergenerational Elderhostel adventure.

Mary Lou loved spending time outside and was frequently spotted taking long walks around Millington and later, Timonium. She also loved spending time by the water, be it Stirling Lake, Lake Erie or the Atlantic Ocean. In both college and her adulthood, she enjoyed being part of a synchronized swimming team. She shared her love of the ocean with her family by frequently arranging vacations at the Jersey Shore and Outer Banks.

Mary Lou was much loved and well respected by her friends, neighbors, and the Loud Crowd. She was predeceased by her parents, Mary and Nelson O’Neil; her husband, George Sennett; her siblings, Kay (Bill) Urbanik and Maureen O’Neil; and her infant son, George Michael. Mary Lou is survived by her five daughters and her son. Mary Lou is also survived by her sister, her brothers-in-law, and by many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren.* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: Oct 26 2022, 15:57:21 UTC
