Biography

Mary Elizabeth Stephens was born in 1842 in Macon, Bibb County, Georgia, USA, Macon, Bibb, Georgia, United States. Her parents were Edward Wilkins Stevens, 2nd Corp, CSA and Mary Edith Stevens.
The beautiful daughter of Edward Wilkins Stevens and Mary Edith Kilby Stevens, born in Macon, Georgia was one of the thousands of innocent victims of the Civil War.

Her father, Edward Stevens decided to move them from their home in Butler, Georgia to Greenville, Alabama after General Sherman left a trail of terror nearby, to stay with relatives while he fought in the war. Her father felt his family wasn't safe living alone in their home. Her father signed up with the Confederate Army in Greenville, Alabama.

After her father left to fight in the war, Mary died during an attack by the Northern troops while she was trying to protect her younger brothers. Mary was shot and killed in front of her brothers and mother. Her brother William Bell Stephens spoke about this during his lifetime and on his deathbed. Always loved, forever missed, and never forgotten.

She died in 1864 in Greenville, Butler County, Alabama, USA, Greenville, Butler County, Alabama, United States from the Civil War, and was buried in Pioneer Cemetery, Greenville, Butler County, Alabama, US..
