Tradition that the first of this family came from Wales; there was a group that went from Wales to Rehoboth, then to Swansea in the 1660s. He first appears in Portsmouth in 1668, when he bought land of William Corey. He is referred to as “mason” after the son of Richard Pearce came of age, then later was called John Pearce, Sr. when that John left and this John’s son was older. The last mention of him seems to be a deed to his son Daniel on Aug. 23, 1691.
