Mary Turnley

Birth:  1735 Virginia, USA Death:  1829 Jefferson County Tennessee, USA

NOTE: This Mary Handy was NOT the daughter of John Handy and Jane Dashiell. Mary, daughter of John Handy and Jane Dashiell, married William Geddes, and died in childbirth in 1766.

She married John Turnley (1730-1808) in 1760 in VA. In 1783 the family moved to the French Broad River in Tennessee, to the area that became Jefferson Co. They and their descendants lived on a number of "home" places up & down stream from Dandridge, TN, including Mount Pleasant. After John died in 1808, Mary closed up their home at Beaver Dam & moved 2 miles up-river to live with her daughter, Elizabeth, wife of George Graham. She died there in 1829 & believed to be buried in Pine Chapel Cem., Jefferson Co., TN
