They set sail in February, 1853 on the ship International, arrived in New Orleans in April of the same year with a company of saints, and moved slowly westward with ox teams and hand carts. This perilous journey lasted five months. Due to hardships and exposure, Robert became ill and died at Fort Laramie on 14 September, 1853, age 63 years. Ann continued the journey to Salt Lake Valley and settledin Lehi in 1860. She, with her family, moved to Smithfield, Cache County, 27 years later at the age of 81. She passed away in Smithfield, Utah.
