About Mary Elizabeth Wilson

1803 - Year of birth - Thomas Jefferson President of the United States, United States makes Lousiana Purchace and Louis and Clark Expedition begins. First steam locomotive built in England by Richard Trevithick. Napoleonic Wars begin. British gains control of India.

      With the death of Guy Carlton, Mary Elizabeth Wilson was left with the responsibility of caring for her five small children and getting this small family accross the plains to the Great Salt Lake Valley.  Sometime after 1847, Mary Elizabeth met George Deliverance Wilson, her husband's cousin.  George Deliverance had recently completed his trek with the Mormon Battalion and was returning to Council Bluffs after a short stay in the Salt Lake Valley.  George Deliverance agreed to a civil marriage in order to help her complete the journey.  There is no date recorded, but according to their agreement, the marriage was annulled after their arrival in Utah.  Appearently came to Utah with the Uriah Curtis Company in 1852.
  Reported to have said " Take heart my dear, you still have much to learn about sacrifice and hardship.  Just remember you are a Wilson!"

Oldest son Lycurgus lived in Fairview, Sanpete, Utah. She spent much of her final years in Payson and Fairview to be near her oldest children. She was buried in the Fairview Cemetary.
