About Mason Andrew Huffman

Mason Huffman, a pioneer resident of Galva, Illinois, son of Abram and Hannah Huffman, of Green County, Pa., was born February 1, 1841, and passed away at the home of his son-in-law, Clay Faber, at Adel, Iowa, Wednesday, March 12, 1919, aged 78 years, 1 month and 11 days.

His early life was spent in Green County, PA. On August 24, 1861, he was united in marriage with Miss Nancy A. Plants, and lived happily for 58 years.

To this union 12 children were born, eight of whom survive him: George M., Milburn, Iowa; Levi A., LaFayette; Abram M., of Galva, Ill,: Mary E. Faber, of Minburn (sic), Iowa; Minnie F. Heck, of Perry, Iowa; Orpha B. Heck, of Ogden, Iowa; Jesse O., of Galva, Ill., and Edna Sunberg, of Kewanee, Ill. Four children preceded him in death: Celia Anderson, who passed away six years ago; Oleana Faber, who passed away three weeks ago, and two sons, James H. and John A. who died in infancy.

On August 28, 1862, he answered his country's call and enlisted in the service at Wheeling, W. Va., serving two years and 11 months, having been twice wounded. When the war closed her received his honorable discharge and came to Kewanee, Ill., where he resided one year, after which he moved to the farm, northeast of Galva, where he spend the remainder of his life except the past few months.

He was baptised and united with the United Brethren church in Galva 45 years ago.

He leaves to mourn his death, his wife and eight children, forty-one grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Dilla Bryner, Mrs. Eliza Johnson and Mrs. Mary White; three brothers, George, John, and William, besides a host of other relatives and friends.

The remains were brought to Galva on Friday morning from Iowa, and taken to his home in the country. The funeral services were held at the First Methodist church, Galva, on Saturday afternoon, conducted by the minister, Rev. Josiah B. Bartle, D.D. Interment was in the Galva Cemetery.
