About Mate Franicevich
Mate started his own trucking business at the tender age of 17. and bought his first tractor in 1945 and so began a life long passion for trucks, tractors and cars. Mate had his fair share of large trucks, Internationals and Kenworths. He was well known for his huge left-hand driven American Utility, no doubt purchased while visiting his cousins in America.
The trucking business also included his brother Clarrie, who was killed in a Quarry accident in 1972.
The Franicevich Business won the contract to supply large amounts of metal, from their quarry, for the Northern motorway Extension. Other projects included transporting materials for the Auckland Harbour Bridge and excavation work for the Wellsford Satellite Station. Mate became well known in the trucking business. For over 60 years, he was on the road transporting goods to farms and industrial sites around the Kaipara district.
