Jane Ford (1805) was a Free Inhabitant who married Mathew Marshall (1800)who was a slave. Mathew was owned by the Bower family of Culpeper. Mathew took on Janes surname because she was free inhabitant. Jane had 17 children. From these children came the following surnames: Porter, Dickerson, Wise, Carter, Robinson,Major,Hurley, Stroud, Jameson, Tutt, Brown, lee and Green. The family resided in Culpeper and later moved North to Philadelphia, New Jersey,New York and Rhode Island.
