MATH NEU DIED CHRISTMAS DAY AT THE AGE OF 81; BURIED ON TUESDAY

Math Neu died Christmas day at 4:45 p.m. at his home in Richmond, MN at the age of 81 years. he had been ill for the past five years.

The deceased was born in Kruehen, Prussia on November 12-1862. He came to America at the age of 17 years and settled in St. Nicholas. He was married in 1878. The young couple immediately moved to a farm near Watkins. To this union five children were born of which two died. The surviving children are Mrs. Kate Witt, of Doon, Iowa; Nick of Crosby, Minn.; and Peter of Watkins. His wife died in 1898 and a few years later he was married to Miss Gertrude Wilenbring. To this union six children were born but one died in infancy and another one died eight years ago. His wife survives with the following children. Mrs. Ferdinand Walz of Watkins, Mrs. James Pappas of St. Cloud, Min., Mrs. Mike J. Schreifels of Fergus Falls and Alphonse of Rockville. Twenty-three grand children also survive in addition to one great grand child. One brother, Peter Neu, of Eden Valley, and two sisters Mrs. Christ Palansch of Cold Spring and Mrs. John B. Schreiner of Watkins. The couple retired from active farming in 1919.

Funeral services were conducted from SS. Peter and Paul church, Tuesday morning at 9:30 with Father Schreiner, a nephew, celebrant, Father Marion, deacon, and Fr. Erick Buermann, O.S.B., sub deacon. Father Schreiner also officiated at cemetery.
