An excerpt from Mathias' 100 year anniversary celebration.

"Grow old along with me!

The best is yet to be,
The last of life, for which the first was made:
Our times are in His hand
Who saith "A whole I planned,
Youth shows but half; trust God: see all nor be afraid."

"Mathias Pounds, well known resident of Delaware County and father of A.J. Pounds, Delaware County Health Commissioner, today has rounded out 100 years of life, and at an informal public reception held today at his home at 104 W. William st., received congratulations of a long list of friends and relatives.

Mr. Pounds has always been a strong and rugged man, and today still finds him hearty and rugged enjoying three meals each day in good health with the exception of his eyesight. Mr. Pounds is handicapped with a cataract on each eye.

Mr. Pounds today stands at the head of five living generations. They are a son, William Pounds, a Granddaughter Laura, a Great Granddaughter Laura Butterfield, a Great Great Grandddaughter Della Sulzer, and a Great Great Great Great Granddaughter Floy Sulzer."
