About Mathias Schleeper
Mathias was the oldest of 6 children born to Johan Heinrich "Henry" Schleeper and Catherine Koldehoff in Calhoun County, Illinois.
Mathias' mother died in 1857; shortly after that, his father, Henry Schleeper, married Angla Plaggenborg. Their marriage lasted only a short time because Henry died in 1861. The children ranged in age from 4 to 15 when they were orphaned by their father's death.
Mathias' step-mother, Angla, then married Hermann Imming on 29 Apr 1862 in Calhoun County. She and Hermann raised the Schleeper children.
Mathias married "Mary" Kiel on 29 Aug 1871 in Calhoun County, Illinois. They were the parents of at least 9 children, although several did not survive childhood.
Mary died in 1900.
Children from first marriage: 3 daughters, 6 sons.
On 06 Feb 1902, Mathias married Helena Dorothy "Helen" Powell. She was the widow of Hermann Santen.
At the time of his death, Mathias was 65 years, 7 months and 15 days old. He was buried next to his first wife, Mary, and several of their children.
Mathias was survived by his second wife, Helen.
