About Matilda Hale (Pehrsson)

Matilda emigrerade till USA efter 1871 (hon flyttar till Göteborgs domkyrkoförsamling 1871 och försvinner sedan spårlöst). Hon bor i Miles City i Montana.

Matilda was born in Gothenburg catherdral parish out of wedlock in May 1853. The birth papers shows however that Elias is her father and the parents are getting engaged in July 1853 and marries in December 1954. The family lives in Nya varvet parish and Matilda moves to Gothenburg catherdral parish 1871 and then disappears without a trace.

Matilda emigrated to USA in 1881. She arrives at New York in 23 of May 1881. (New York Passenger lists 1820-1957.) She came with the ship City of New York as no. 297 in the passenger list. In 1887 she became an american citizen. She is probably married in 1887 and becomes a widdow about 1900. She lives in Miles City in Montana. In the 1914 Miles City, Montana Directory. An entry in that book states, "Mrs. Mathilda Hale, moved to Forsyth, Mont." Forsyth, Montana is in Rosebud County about 45 miles west of Miles City. As a widow she moves together with the two eldest surviving daughters and their husbands to Multnomah county, Oregon. As it is most likely that Matilda do not move away from her children at the time of her death we have to presuppose that it is the right Matilda Hale who dies 1930 23/2 Linn county, OR. Linn county lies about 190 km from Multnomah county.

CITY OF NEW YORK 1875 Source: http://www.theshipslist.com/ships/descriptions/ShipsCC.html The CITY OF NEW YORK was an iron built, 3,019 gross ton, screw propulsion steamer with a speed of 14 knots. She was built in 1875 by Roach, Chester, PA for the Pacific Mail Steamship Co.and sailed on her first voyage from San Francisco to Kandavau (Fiji) and Sydney on 24th April 1876. On 26th October 1893 she was wrecked on Point Bonita, San Francisco Bay. The company ran a service between San Francisco, Fiji, Honolulu and Australia / New Zealand ports and from 1879, advertised in the London Times "An overland route from Britain to Australia, New Zealand, China, etc, via New York and San Francisco in connection with the Anchor Line from London or Glasgow to New York. Through tickets are available". [North Star to Southern Cross by John M.Maber]
