Matthew was the oldest James' 15 children.
He was an honored citizen and a true christian. His occupation was a farmer. Their first three children were born in Georgia and Elizabeth of "Betsy" in Florida. In the 1860 Hillsborough County census, we find Matthew with his second wife, Elizabeth, his four children by Caroline and three children by his current marriage. The value of his estate was $555. In 1870 Manatee County census, his estate was valued at $800. In the Polk County census Elizabeth was a widow. She was born in Georgia and can read, but not write.
Two of Matthew's daughters by his second wife, Martha nd Mary, married their second cousins, John A Alderman and General Morgan Alderman. John and Morgan were also second cousins, and though both in South Georgia, neither knew the other, nor did they know their future wives until they all met in Florida.
We cannot locate the exact birth or death dates or where he an Caroline were buried.
The children of Matthew and Clarissa Elizabeth Hendry were found in various census records.
