He was a prominent citizen of Chautauqua County, N. Y. being County Treasurer at the age of 22, and later County Clerk. He represented the First Chautauqua District in the Legislature from 1868-72. He was the promoter of the Cross Cut Ry. and Treasurer of the Company. He built the Mayville Mills, and conducted other large enterprises in that place. A shrewd and successful politician widely known throughout the state.
